Nina Wáng ({{{2}}}) is the deuteragonist of the Mai-Otome TV anime.

Mai Otome[]

The young Nina is shown in an underground area in the company of vagabonds at a time when the area is raided by Sergay Wáng, who proceeds to assassinate many of the area's denizens which took place on her birthday, 7th September, in A.R. 325. A frightened Nina attempts to defend herself with a pistol but is unable to, firing off target and causing a piece of shrapnel to would Sergay's forehead, leaving a scar apparent throughout the anime. Sergay takes pity on Nina and raises her as his own in the Principality of Artai.

Upon finding photographs of the Otome Lena Sayers (whom Sergay was infatuated) on Sergay's desk, the knowledge of this infatuation becomes a bugbear to Nina throughout her young life and likely played a part in her determination to become an Otome.

Nina's most treasured artifact from that era was a pocket watch given to her by Sergay containing a photograph of the two of them (which was later replaced). This was given to her on her "birthday", which Sergay determined to be the 7th September due to that also being the date the princess of Windbloom, Mashiro Blan de Windbloom, was born. The watch itself is of little value, being a timepiece Sergay purchased upon receipt of his first pay packet.

Nina takes her goal very seriously to become a full fledged Otome, earning her top rank of Garderobe's Coral class. By working hard and succeeding, she receives praise from her adoptive father. Nina holds mixed feelings towards Arika Yumemiya. Despite not showing it much, Nina regards Arika as a very close friend. On the other hand, her hate for Arika stems from the fact that Arika is in possession of the Blue Sky Sapphire GEM - a Meister GEM that was previously owned by Lena Sayers, a former Otome that Sergay deeply admired and had feelings for. This also leads to her believing Sergay chose her birthday to be the same day of Rena's child (Arika). It is later mentioned by Sergay that Nina's birthday is the day they met. In addition to her dislike for Arika, she views her as a love rival to Sergay as the two slowly become closer together.

Life at Garderobe[]

Nina is extremely hard working and competitive. Though she states that she wants to become an Otome, her real dream is to be happy with her foster father Sergay. She is the top Coral GEM user at the academy and is close friends with Erstin Ho, Arika Yumemiya, and Irina Woods.

True Identity[]

Nina's true identity is that of royalty. She is the true heiress to the kingdom of Windbloom and therefore is the true queen. At the beginning of the anime, she is seen being carried by Lena Sayers inside a cradle. She is told that she must live and then is given Windbloom's royal family GEM (Blue Sky Sapphire). Nina is presumably found by human traffickers and eventually ends up in Artai where she is being raised to become an assassin along with other children victims. The Blue Sky Sapphire ends up in the markets of Artai to be sold, but picked up by Miyu in her travels and is returned to the mother of Lena. She is eventually rescued by Sergay Wáng who adopts her.

Invasion of Schwarz and Artai[]

When Schwarz launched an attack on Windbloom (allied with Artai), Sergay tells Nina to ensure the safety of the Duke of Artai (Nagi). She later reunites with Arika and the rest only to find them in a conflict with John Smith. Through this conflict, it's revealed that Sergay is Arika's secret patronage, which enrages her - confirming that Sergay indeed has feelings for Arika. Her hostility against Arika reached her peak and her hatred for Arika resonating with the Ultimate Black Diamond, Nagi forms a contract with Nagi on the spot. Nina attempts to deliver a devastating blow to Arika, but her attack was blocked by Erstin's slave and killing it, which in turn also kills Erstin, since the symbiotic link between Slave and Lord is the same as Otome and Master. Erstin's tragedy pitted the two against each other in a fight to the death, with the area left destroyed.

In the aftermath, Nina tries to keep up a cheerful face but is remorsefully hurt and devastated in regret about Erstin's death and the toll of her friendship between her and Arika. Nevertheless, she stays by her father's side and remains as Nagi's Otome. Her feelings regarding Arika are still shaky as noted by Nagi.

After the reclamation of Windbloom, Nina takes the comatized Sergay with her and watches over him in a cabin out in the woods. After an unknown amount of time, Sergay wakes up with no memory of his former self. Nina introduces herself with the name Nina instead of Neena - the name that Sergay would call Nina to emphasize their child-parent relationship.

Abilities[]

In the anime, Nina carries the Ultimate Black Diamond (漆黒の金剛石, Shikkoku no Kongōseki), and forms a contract with Nagi. It's later revealed that the Ultimate Black Diamond is the corrupted Pure White Diamond. Her Meister Robe is green and her Element is a pair of sai-like daggers that can be merged into a massive sword. Similar to the behavior of Arika Yumemiya's Blue Sky Sapphire, the Gem reacts to certain situations, specifically Nina's anger and sadness. The Gem was first unlocked when Nina snapped when she found out that Sergay was secretly sponsoring Arika and led to believe that he was having an affair with her. The diamond also seems to work in correspondence with the Harmonium. After being defeated by Arika, the corrupted gem seems to have been cleansed and returned to being the Pure White Diamond (as seem from Nagi's ring).

During the final battle against Arika, the Ultimate Black Diamond's master briefly changed to the Harmonium. This radically changes Nina's Robe (to version 2.0, according to the official site's classification) and she has black wings growing out from her back. She appears to wield a sword very similar to Miroku, the black sword with glowing red eyes, similar to Mikoto Minagi's sword from My-HiME.

In My-Otome Zwei, Nina gains the Neptune Emerald GEM (海神の翠玉, Watatsumi no Suigyoku), her element is a Bident (A trident with two prongs instead of the usual three; in mythology, the god Neptune carried a Trident, while his brother Pluto, god of the underworld carried a Bident) and she has a special attack known as the Dash Cold Water Spout.
